Big Lake North State Recreation Site

All campsites at Big Lake North State Recreation Site are first-come, first-served. Located just 13 miles west of Wasilla, this site is a hub of activity, particularly during the summer months when boating and fishing are extremely popular. Known as Alaska’s Year-Round Playground, Big Lake sees a significant increase in visitors on weekends and throughout the season, drawn by the many recreational opportunities available.

  • Summer Activities: fishing, wildlife viewing, and watersports
  • Winter Activities: Snowmobiling, dog mushing, cross-country skiing, and ice fishing

 

Rocky Lake State Recreation Site

Situated on the shore of the 56-acre Rocky Lake, Rocky Lake State Recreation Site offers a well-forested, intimate setting perfect for RV vacations. Located off Rocky Lake Drive by Big Lake Road, this 49-acre site sits at an elevation of 170 feet and features 10 spacious campsites. The area is teeming with wildlife, including moose and polar bears.

  • Summer Activities: Boating, paddle boating, fishing, and swimming  (though temperatures typically stay below 60°F)
  • Winter Activities: Winter is especially popular here, attracting locals and travelers alike with the beauty of the Alaskan mountain ranges and scenic valleys. The lake becomes the focal point once it freezes over, offering snowmobiling, ice fishing and skiing. 

 

King Mountain State Recreation Area

Nestled beneath King Mountain on the banks of the Matanuska River, King Mountain State Recreation Area offers beautiful river scenery and peaceful camping. This site features 22 campsites, picnic areas, toilets, and water.

 

Big Lake Boat Rentals – Campsites

Big Lake Boat Rentals offers camping sites that are fully equipped for RVs. The RV campsites can accommodate vehicles up to 30 feet and provide all the essential amenities to enhance your camping experience.

However, if you don’t have an RV you can choose from the two on-site cabins for rent, providing a cozy and convenient lakeside stay. They are perfect for a quick getaway and offer all the comforts of home in a beautiful natural setting.

  • Check-in: Noon – 7 pm (earlier if available)
  • Check out: 11 am
  • Quiet time: 9 pm – 9 am
  • Occupancy: 6 person limit
  • Pet policy: Limit 2 pets (under 50 lbs, leashed & under owner’s control)
